As part of activities marking the Golden Jubilee of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday inspected ongoing infrastructure projects across Abuja, commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for reshaping the city’s landscape.
Speaking with journalists after touring several project sites, Wike expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work, drawing attention to key projects such as the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) and the Apo–Wassa Road network.
The inspection began in Gishiri, where the minister disclosed that the road projects were progressing steadily and are expected to be inaugurated in the administration’s second or third year. He also inspected the bridge works at the OSEX/Ring Road junction before proceeding to the Apo–Wassa axis, a strategic route serving traders and residents in Apo.
“I am very pleased with what I have seen. We are executing three major projects, and we expect most of them to be completed by August, while the OSEX project will be delivered as part of the third-year anniversary of this administration,” Wike said.
Reflecting on the FCT’s 50th anniversary, the minister noted that the ongoing infrastructure development goes beyond ceremonial celebrations. He stressed that over the past three years, President Tinubu’s leadership has significantly transformed Abuja, adding that all projects are being implemented in line with the Abuja Master Plan.
Wike also addressed the recent strike action by the Joint Unions Action Committee (JUAC), dismissing claims that it had stalled progress. He said the dispute was not about winners or losers but the collective interest of the FCT and its continued development.
According to him, union leaders who visited the project sites were able to see the level of progress firsthand, which helped clear misconceptions and confirm that conditions were conducive for workers to return to their duties.
