President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commissioned the Bwari Township Water Supply Network Project, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to extending access to clean and safe water to all satellite towns in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Represented by First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, at the inauguration in Bwari on Tuesday, the President described access to potable water as a fundamental right and said the project reflects the Renewed Hope Agenda’s commitment to inclusive infrastructure development.
Tinubu said the newly completed 198-kilometre water pipeline network, constructed by China Geo-engineering Construction (CGC) Limited, will supply treated water from the Lower Usuma Dam to Bwari, Ushafa and surrounding communities, reducing dependence on boreholes and streams.
He noted that the project would improve public health, reduce waterborne diseases, lower the cost of accessing clean water and create economic opportunities, revealing that more than 1,600 direct and indirect jobs were generated during its construction.
The President also pledged to expand the water supply programme to other satellite towns, including Kuje, Kwali, Gwagwalada and Abaji, before the end of his administration.
Tinubu commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for driving infrastructure development across the FCT, praising his efforts in delivering multiple landmark projects under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Speaking at the event, Wike said the Bwari project is the third major water intervention completed under the Tinubu administration, following the rehabilitation of Abuja’s city water system and the commissioning of the Karu Water Supply Project.
He disclosed that the administration has commissioned 50 major projects in the FCT since President Tinubu assumed office in May 2023, with plans to inaugurate 10 additional projects before the commencement of election campaigns next year.
Wike attributed the pace of development in the FCT to President Tinubu’s continued support, assuring residents that the administration remains committed to delivering more people-centred infrastructure across the territory.
