The political landscape in Katsina State has been shaken following reports that the Ward Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Guga, Bakori Local Government Area, has been beheaded by unknown assailants over allegations of colluding with bandits.
The gruesome incident was revealed by a conflict journalist known as Bakatsine, via his verified X handle on Monday. While the identity of the slain chairman has not yet been confirmed, the journalist stated that the killing was linked to accusations that the party official was providing support to armed bandits terrorising the region.
“BREAKING: According to reports, APC Ward Chairman in Guga, Bakori LGA, Katsina State, has been beheaded over accusations of aiding bandits,” Bakatsine posted.
The alleged execution comes amid heightened insecurity across Northwest Nigeria, where banditry, kidnapping, and rural violence have continued unabated despite government interventions.
Katsina, the home state of former President Muhammadu Buhari, remains one of the worst-hit states by armed bandit activities, with communities frequently attacked, residents abducted, and farmlands destroyed.
These repeated assaults have not only endangered lives but also disrupted agricultural activities, displaced thousands, and deepened the region’s economic hardship.
Authorities are yet to officially comment on the reported killing, and no arrests have been made as of the time of filing this report.
Security experts warn that growing distrust between residents and local authorities—fuelled by allegations of political and community figures aiding criminal groups—may further complicate efforts to restore peace in the region.
UGAMA TV is following the story and will provide updates as more details emerge.
