24-Hour Violence Erupts in Kano’s Kurna Kan Mayanka, Three Feared Dead

A wave of violence broke out in Kurna Kan Mayanka, a densely populated area in Kano State, on Sunday, leading to the death of at least three people and leaving residents gripped with fear.

The chaos reportedly erupted around 11:00 a.m. shortly after a wedding ceremony in the area, when a group of armed thugs launched a sudden and unprovoked attack on young men in the community.

According to information obtained by UGAMA TV, one of the victims has been identified as Umar Umar Na-mani. A resident, Sani Dambazau, who lives near the area, confirmed the fatalities and expressed fears that the death toll could rise, given the scale of violence witnessed.

Abubakar Umar, the brother of one of the deceased, recounted the harrowing moment his sibling was attacked.

“He was in his shop. The thugs came and took his goods. He tried to stop them, they stabbed him and took all his property,” he said, visibly distraught. “May Allah SWT avenge them soonest.”

The violent episode, which reportedly lasted for 24 hours, has left the community in a state of panic, with many residents fleeing their homes for fear of reprisal attacks.

While the exact motive behind the attack remains unclear, locals suspect it may be connected to deep-seated rivalries among youth gangs operating in the area.

As of press time, the Kano State Police Command has not issued an official statement on the incident. Multiple attempts by UGAMA TV to reach the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Hussaini Abdullahi, were unsuccessful.

Residents are calling on security agencies and the state government to intervene urgently to restore peace and prevent further bloodshed.
