The Nasarawa State Police Command has rescued a three-day-old baby who was abducted and arrested two suspects linked to the incident.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists on Friday in Lafia.
According to him, the case was reported in the early hours of Sunday, March 29, by a 19-year-old mother, Aisha Basa, a resident of Ungwan Bako in the Orange Market area of Mararaba, Karu Local Government Area.
She explained that her husband, Abubakar Isah, a commercial tricycle operator, had travelled to Lagos about five months earlier for business.
Nansel stated that the mother reported that at about 11:50 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, while she was asleep with her newborn in their residence at the outskirts of Unguwan Bawa, two unidentified men broke into the house, threatened her, and took the baby to an unknown location.
Following the report, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Shettima Jauro-Mohammed, immediately directed detectives from the Mararaba ‘A’ Division to visit the scene and commence a full-scale investigation.
Acting on credible intelligence, police operatives arrested two suspects on April 3, 2026, at about 4:00 a.m.
The suspects were identified as Furera Abdulrahman, 35, of Rugan Juli, and Sadiya Abdullahi, 39, of Ungwan Bako, Orange Market.
The police spokesperson confirmed that the abducted baby boy was found in their possession and safely rescued.
He added that during interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime and revealed the involvement of another accomplice who is currently on the run.
The rescued infant was taken to the Medical Centre in Mararaba, where he was examined and confirmed to be in good health by a medical doctor. He has since been reunited with his parents after being discharged.
Nansel further stated that the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia for further investigation after preliminary inquiries are concluded.
He reassured residents of the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging the public to remain alert and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
