As part of activities commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Nigerian Navy, the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Escravos organized a novelty volleyball match between officers and ratings to promote physical fitness, teamwork, and healthy competition among personnel.
The event, held at the Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) volleyball court, attracted officers, ratings, civilians, and invited guests.
Declaring the match open, Commanding Officer of FOB Escravos, Navy Captain Arinzechukwu Kenneth Egwuatuonwu, said the initiative formed part of a series of activities lined up to celebrate the Nigerian Navy’s 70 years of service to the nation.
According to him, the novelty match was designed to encourage physical fitness, strengthen teamwork, and foster healthy competition among personnel.
“This novelty match between officers and ratings is one of the activities put in place to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Nigerian Navy. The essence is to encourage physical fitness, teamwork, and healthy competition among personnel,” he said.
Following the introduction of players to the Commanding Officer, Egwuatuonwu performed the ceremonial serve to officially kick off the match, while professional umpires from Chevron Nigeria Limited officiated the game.
At the end of the keenly contested encounter, the ratings team emerged victorious, defeating the officers’ team to claim the trophy and medals presented at the event.
In his closing remarks, the Commanding Officer commended all participants for demonstrating sportsmanship, teamwork, and commitment throughout the match.
He urged personnel to remain disciplined, dedicated, and professional in the discharge of their duties, while also emphasizing the importance of regular participation in sports to maintain fitness and overall well-being.
The volleyball match was one of several activities organized by FOB Escravos to mark the Nigerian Navy’s 70th anniversary celebration.
