The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has approved the promotion of 17,952 junior officers across various ranks in the Nigeria Police Force as part of efforts to enhance personnel welfare, boost morale, and reward outstanding service.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, who said the promotion exercise cuts across Commands and Formations nationwide.
According to the statement, 165 Sergeants were elevated to the rank of Inspector, 73 Corporals were promoted to Sergeant, while 17,714 Constables advanced to the rank of Corporal.
Placid noted that the exercise reflects the commitment of the Force leadership to recognising diligence, professionalism, and dedication to duty among officers, while also encouraging career progression within the police service.
The Inspector General of Police emphasized that timely promotion remains a key component of the Force’s human resource management strategy, serving as a vital tool for motivating personnel to remain dedicated to their constitutional responsibilities.
He stated that the advancement of qualified officers underscores the current police leadership’s commitment to merit, professional development, and institutional growth.
Congratulating the newly promoted officers, IGP Disu urged them to see their elevation as a call to greater responsibility, professionalism, discipline, and commitment to service.
He further charged them to uphold the core values of the Nigeria Police Force, perform their duties with integrity, respect human rights, and remain steadfast in upholding the rule of law.
The Force reiterated its commitment to promoting excellence, rewarding hard work, and strengthening institutional capacity in line with global best practices in policing.
