Onyinyechi Basil, representing Anambra State, has emerged winner of the Miss Universe Nigeria 2025 beauty pageant.
The 25-year-old was crowned during the grand finale held on Saturday evening in Lagos, outshining 21 other contestants to succeed Chidimma Adetishina, the 2024 titleholder.
In her acceptance speech, the new queen encouraged young girls across Nigeria to embrace ambition while staying true to their roots.
“I want young girls to know that they can achieve more, and still celebrate their cultural identity,” she said to thunderous applause.
According to UGAMA TV, Basil will now fly Nigeria’s flag at the Miss Universe 2025 global competition, where she is expected to compete against delegates from over 80 countries.
Other winners on the night include Miss Lagos, Damilola Bolarinde, who emerged first runner-up; Fortune Kurobo of Bayelsa, second runner-up; and Miss Ogun, Irene Ikediashi, who finished in third place.
The event, graced by celebrities, fashion icons, and dignitaries, showcased dazzling cultural displays, evening gowns, and question rounds that tested contestants’ poise, intellect, and charisma.
Basil’s victory was celebrated as a triumph not just for her state but also for Nigerian women aspiring to combine cultural pride with global recognition.
