NAFDAC Slams Dangerous ‘Azodie’ Additive Used to ‘Red‑Boost’ Palm Oil

The National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has strongly condemned the practice of adding Azodie to palm oil to enhance its attractiveness by marketers in the country.

The agency described the act as a dangerous marketing practice.

According to Kenneth Azikwe, Zonal Director of NAFDAC’s North Central Zone, in Minna, marketers add Azodie to palm oil at night to make it appear redder, which poses health risks to consumers.

Azikwe warned that NAFDAC will not tolerate such harmful practices and will, therefore, take action against anyone caught engaging in them.

He also emphasised the Agency’s commitment to ensuring the safety and quality of food products in the country.

Azikwe revealed NAFDAC’s efforts in regulating the industry to include the development of digital platforms such as NAPALMS, RETURATION PORTER, and the NATIONAL SINGLE TRADE WINDOW, which enable stakeholders to access services and provide feedback.

He then appealed to the Niger State Government to allocate land for a permanent NAFDAC office complex in the state.
