Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), Abia State, has made history with the appointment of Professor Ursula Ngozi Akanwa as its first female Vice-Chancellor. Her appointment was approved by the University’s Governing Council, making her the 7th substantive Vice-Chancellor of the institution.
Professor Akanwa will succeed Professor Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, who completes his five-year tenure on February 28. She is scheduled to officially assume office on March 1.
The announcement was made by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Comrade Fidelis Chukwunweike Edeh, following the Council’s 95th meeting, during which the report of the Selection Panel was reviewed and adopted.
Until her appointment, Professor Akanwa served as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Development) of the University. A distinguished Professor of Educational Measurement and Evaluation, she joined MOUAU in 2011 as an Associate Professor from Abia State University, Uturu, and was elevated to the rank of full Professor in 2014.
