Mbappe Doubtful for Club World Cup Opener Against Al-Hilal Due to Illness

Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe may miss their FIFA Club World Cup opener against Al-Hilal on Wednesday, as he continues to recover from illness.

Mbappe did not take part in training ahead of the match, raising doubts about his availability for new manager Xabi Alonso’s first competitive game in charge.

Speaking to the media, Alonso confirmed the French star was feeling slightly better but remained uncertain for the fixture.

“Kylian felt a little better this morning, but not enough to join the team. We’ll wait until the last moment and decide tomorrow morning,” he said.

Madrid could also be without key defender Antonio Rudiger and midfielder Eduardo Camavinga. Alonso praised Rudiger’s efforts throughout the season but admitted his involvement remains uncertain.

“Rudiger gave everything this season. He’s recovering well and could be the first to return, but I’m not sure he’ll be called up for tomorrow,” Alonso noted.

He added that Camavinga is also showing positive signs of recovery but still needs more time to regain full fitness.
