INEC Announces Voter Registration Dates for Anambra Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has clarified that the Continuous Voter Registration, CVR, exercise beginning on July 8 in Anambra, is only for the November 8 governorship election in the state.
Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Elizabeth Agwu, made this known at a news conference on Thursday in Awka.

She stated that the CVR was not applicable to the Senate and House of Assembly bye-elections, adding that CVR for the governorship election would commence on July 8 and be concluded on July 17.

The Resident Commissioner further clarified that the exercise would run daily from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, including Saturdays but excluding Mondays, urging eligible voters in the state to turn out en-masse to either register afresh or update their biodata as needed.

“Fresh registration must be done physically at designated INEC offices, while data revalidation or corrections can be done online. INEC will not register any person in absentia.

“Also, registrations outside the approved time will not be accepted, as the registration portal will automatically close at 3:00 p.m. each day,” she said.

Agwu, who warned eligible voters not to pay for voter registration, said it is illegal, appealing to residents to take the opportunity seriously.

She urged them to participate in registering and voting in the upcoming governorship election to play their part in choosing who governs them.
