The much-anticipated heavyweight clash between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua remains one of boxing’s biggest unfulfilled matchups, with the two fighters yet to meet in the ring despite years of anticipation.
Multiple rounds of negotiations, postponements, and shifting plans have kept the fight from happening. However, recent comments from promoter Kalle Sauerland have reignited speculation about a possible showdown.
Speaking in a recent interview, Sauerland indicated that the long-awaited bout could take place later this year, although no official confirmation has been made by either fighter’s camp. The situation remains uncertain as fans continue to wait for a definitive announcement.
In a conversation with iFL TV, Sauerland referenced reports suggesting the fight could be staged in Dublin, possibly around September or October.
“You also look at other fights coming up. Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua are expected to fight later this year, possibly in Dublin around September or October,” he said.
Meanwhile, rising heavyweight Moses Itauma has drawn attention after a dominant performance against Jermaine Franklin, where he became the first fighter to stop him with a fifth-round knockout at Manchester’s Co-op Live Arena. The victory has boosted his profile and strengthened calls for bigger fights.
When asked about a potential fight with Joshua, Itauma remained open, stating, “If that’s a fight to make, that’s a fight to make.”
Now boasting a perfect 14-0 record with 12 knockouts, Itauma is emerging as a strong contender and could potentially become the youngest British heavyweight champion in history.
Joshua’s return to the ring has been delayed due to personal tragedy earlier in 2026, following a fatal car accident involving close friends. The incident temporarily halted his training and preparations.
Promoter Eddie Hearn has indicated that Joshua could make his return between July and August.
Despite ongoing delays, the Fury vs Joshua fight remains one of the most highly anticipated bouts in boxing history. Fury is currently scheduled to face Arslanbek Makhmudov on April 11, while Joshua is still finalizing his next opponent.
Promoter Frank Warren has praised Itauma’s potential, calling him one of the best heavyweights he has worked with, while also hinting at a possible title path, including a fight against Oleksandr Usyk later in the year.
For now, boxing fans continue to wait as uncertainty surrounds whether Fury and Joshua will finally meet in the ring.
