Everton hadn’t beaten Liverpool at Anfield since 1999 and hadn’t come out victorious in a Merseyside derby since 2010, but managed to grab a 2-0 victory over Jurgen Klopp‘s men on Saturday.

Richarlison opened the scoring for the Toffees just three minutes into the game and Gylfi Sigurdsson converted from the spot late in the second part to clinch the win for the visitors.

Everton took Liverpool by surprise when Richarlison put them ahead early in the match after a spectacular James Rodriguez through ball.

Jordan Pickford denied Jordan Henderson with a superb save following the Liverpool captain’s first-time effort from the edge of the box.

Everton defended well and the Reds struggled to create in attack, lacking creativity and the final pass in the first half.

Pickford pulled off another great save to deny Mohamed Salah after the break and Everton were awarded a penalty kick late in the match.

Sigurdsson stepped up and smoothly converted from the spot to seal Everton’s historic victory on the road.

Liverpool tried to pull one back, but Roberto Firmino‘s strike went just wide and Georginio Wijnaldum‘s effort was saved by Pickford.

Both Everton and the Reds now have 40 points in the Premier League, but the Toffees have one game in hand in their efforts to clinch Champions League qualification for next season.
