The push for the 2027 re-election of Bola Tinubu gained significant grassroots support over the weekend as the National Councillors Forum of Nigeria officially aligned with the City Boys Movement.
President of the Forum, Evoh Okechukwu Nwikegwu, announced that the country’s 8,809 councillors are prepared to mobilise support across Nigeria’s 176,836 polling units to secure a decisive victory for the president in the next general election.
Nwikegwu described the collaboration between councillors and the City Boys Movement, led by Seyi Tinubu, as a powerful alliance capable of driving nationwide political mobilisation. He stressed that councillors, as the closest elected officials to local communities, play a crucial role in grassroots political engagement.
According to him, the scale of the mobilisation reflects a movement that is set to gain momentum across the country, adding that efforts to weaken it would not succeed.
He also praised the administration of President Tinubu, describing it as transformative for Nigeria. Nwikegwu highlighted the restoration of local government autonomy as one of the administration’s most significant achievements.
He further pointed to ongoing efforts by the government to strengthen national stability, expand social programmes targeting vulnerable citizens and boost agricultural development, particularly within rural communities.
Nwikegwu commended Seyi Tinubu for his leadership of the City Boys Movement, describing him as an inspiring figure for young people and grassroots supporters. He added that the South-East region is increasingly receptive to the movement, suggesting a possible shift in political dynamics ahead of the 2027 elections.
He concluded by urging Nigerians to prioritise unity and support ongoing reforms aimed at building a more prosperous, peaceful and progressive nation.
