The Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development in Lagos State, Dayo Bush Alebiosu, has shared personal insights into the life and legacy of his father, Busura Adedeji Alebiosu, as the veteran politician approaches his 90th birthday.
Speaking in an interview, Alebiosu described his father as a disciplined, principled, and deeply influential figure whose firm upbringing shaped his character and values. He recalled that while his father appeared strict during his childhood, he now appreciates the intentional guidance that instilled integrity, punctuality, and resilience.
According to him, his father evolved beyond being just a parent into a mentor who encouraged independent thinking and personal growth. He noted that one of his father’s defining traits is the ability to listen carefully and accept stronger arguments, a quality he greatly admires.
Reflecting on lessons learned early in life, he recounted how his father taught him patience and problem-solving, emphasising that challenges should be approached with calmness and wisdom rather than aggression.
He also highlighted his father’s long-standing political influence, noting that he served as a councillor in 1976 and later as a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly in 1979 and 1983. Growing up in that environment, he said, exposed him to leadership and governance from an early age.
Describing him as a principled politician, Alebiosu said his father is known for fairness, resilience, and a strong commitment to service. He added that his leadership style is rooted in sacrifice, active listening, and long-term relationship building.
Among his notable contributions, he cited his father’s role in resolving land ownership issues in Kosofe, which enabled residents to secure their properties at minimal cost—an intervention that has significantly increased the value of those assets today. He also acknowledged his involvement in grassroots development, including the creation and restructuring of local government areas.
Despite his influence, Alebiosu noted that his father prefers to work quietly behind the scenes, contributing to political stability without seeking public recognition.
He also spoke about personal experiences that revealed his father’s humility, including how he later apologised for being overly strict after discovering his son’s learning difficulty. He described him as someone who continuously evolves and adapts, even in the face of challenges.
On how he handles setbacks, Alebiosu said his father remains forward-looking, choosing not to dwell on negativity while maintaining relationships and offering guidance during difficult times.
As he prepares to celebrate his milestone birthday, Alebiosu expressed gratitude on behalf of the family, thanking his father for his sacrifices, mentorship, and enduring values. He prayed for continued good health and long life, describing it as a privilege to be his son.
