Unknown gunmen attacked the residence of former Minister of Sports, Mr. Damishi Sango, in Dalwal village, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, k!lling a female relative and injuring his police escort.

 

 

 

It was gathered that the incident occurred on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at about 10:46 p.m., when the assailants reportedly stormed the compound and opened fire.

 

 

 

 

During the attack, Inspector Walba Go Tom, a police officer from the Special Protection Unit Base 4, Makurdi, attached to the former minister, sustained gunshot wounds.

 

 

 

 

His service rifle, an assault weapon with breach number, was taken away by the attackers, security analyst, Zagazola Makama reported.

 

 

 

A female relative of the former minister was also hit by gunfire and later d!ed while receiving treatment at Plateau Specialists Hospital in Jos.

 

 

 

The police officer is currently hospitalized and responding to treatment. Community sources say the assailants fled the scene before help could arrive.

 

 

 

Meanwhile, former minister of sports, Solomon Dalung, has extended his deepest condolences to Sango and his family.
