Woman dies in apartment, missing two-year -old’s body found in canal

The remains of a woman identified simply as Ego have been recovered from her apartment on Femi Otunnubi Street, in the Bariga area of Lagos State.

UGAMATV gathered that Ego, who had been sick for a while, was rushed to a hospital for treatment, but discharged on the same day.

A source told our correspondent that Ego’s health deteriorated.

Her neighbours were reported to have recovered her corpse from her apartment.

A resident, who identified himself only as Abikoya, said Ego was rushed to a hospital on September 18, 2021, before she was found dead in her apartment the next day.

“Her remains were removed by the police and deposited at the Mainland General Hospital’s mortuary, Yaba, for an autopsy,” the source said.

In another development, the family of two-year-old Abdulmaliki Jamiu were thrown into mourning after his corpse was found in a canal on Awolowo Street, in the Amukoko area of Lagos.

UGAMATV gathered that Abdulmaliki was at his mother’s shop on Awolowo Street when he went missing around 5.35pm, as efforts by his mother to locate him proved abortive.

Our correspondent learnt that the family later reported a case of a missing person to the Amukoko Police Division, and also organised a search party to find him.

During the search, a source revealed to our correspondent that the corpse was found in a canal on Awolowo Street.

The source said, “What we gathered was that the boy’s father, Jamiu Mufutawu, said his son was missing and after they conducted a search for him in the area, his corpse was found in a canal close to his mother’s shop.

“What people have been saying is that maybe the boy fell into the canal while attempting to cross a local bridge. His parents reported the incident to the police on September 9, 2021, but his remains were found on September 10, 2021.”

UGAMATV gathered that no mark of violence was found on the corpse.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, promised to get back to our correspondent after being briefed about the cases.

He had yet to do so as of the time this report was filed.
