Herdsmen attack probe, waste of time, say Igangan residents

Residents of igangan community in Ibarapa North Local Government Area of Oyo State have said that they are not surprised that the police have not arrested the perpetrators of June 5 attack against the town four months after the incident.

About 20 lives were reportedly lost in the attack which happened around midnight on the day.

Four of the suspected attackers were said to have also been killed during the deadly attack on the community.

Speaking with our correspondent on Monday, the Convener of Igangan Development Advocates, Oladiran Oladokun, said he never expected the police or any Federal Government agency to carry out any investigation into the attack.

Oladiran said it was obvious that the herdsmen who allegedly attacked the community were enjoying tacit support of the Federal Government and to expect the police, an agency of the Federal Government, to probe the perpetrators would amount to wishful thinking.

He said, “Talking about things like this is a waste if time. It’s like when the Oba’s goats destroy a farm and his guards are asked to probe such incident. What do you expect to get? Nothing.

“The only thing we can do is to prevent such attack from occurring again. But to wait for the police to come up with useful findings after their so called investigation is to be waiting for Godot. It will not happen.”

Also, the President, Ibarapa Development Forum,   Mr Etomilade Oduola, told our correspondent in a separate interview that the police had forgotten about the attack.

He said, “How many of such have the  police resolved Have they arrested  those behind the gory killing of Dr Fatai Aborode, among others and even those before that”

The Police Public Relations Officer in Oyo State, Adewale Osifeso, was called but the call dropped few seconds after.

Subsequent calls were not answered and the PPRO had yet to reply to the text message sent to him on the matter.
