Police patrol Anambra towns, CP orders cops to confront killers

The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Tony Olofu, has charged  police personnel in the state to  confront hoodlums who have been terrorising the state.

Olufo stated this on Monday while leading a team of policemen to patrol areas that were attacked the previous day by gunmen where two persons were reportedly killed and property destroyed.

Recall that a week ago, nine persons, including Dr Chike Akunyili, the widower of the late Minister of Information, Prof Dora Akunyili, were  killed by gunmen at Nkpor, in the Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.

On Sunday, two persons were killed in Nnewi, while public and private facilities were set ablaze, including the Nnewi house of Joe Igbokwe,  the Special Adviser on Drainage and Water Resources to the Lagos State Governor.

The CP visited the residences of Chiefs Joe Igbokwe and Chu Okongwu, which were set on fire by hoodlums on Sunday.

A statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Ikenga Tochukwu said  Olofu  also visited the office of the Department of State Services, which was a attacked on the same day.

The PPRO said, “While condemning the recurring developments of public disturbance and attacks on government facilities and private residences in the state, the CP charged the police personnel to be firm, resolute in resisting and taking the battle to the door-step of the perpetrators of the dastardly acts to bring them to book.”

Anambra killings: Army launches ‘Exercise Golden Dawn’

The 302 Artillery Regiment General Support, has launched ‘Exercise Golden Dawn,’ to put end to gunmen attacks and provide security in Anambra State.

The exercise, according to the Commander 302 Artillery Regiment (General Support) Col. Abdulkarim Usman, will help  to combat insecurity in the state and foster inter agency cooperation.

Usman said the exercise would include routine training in various South-East states.

Usman said, “The military will use the opportunity in conjunction with other security agencies to curb the existing security threats in Anambra State.

“The threats range from secessionist agitations, by the Movement for the Actualizsation of Sovereign State of Biafra to the Indigenous People of Biafra, and Eastern Security Network.

“Others are banditry, kidnapping, cult activities, land disputes clashes, communal clashes, chieftaincy issues, assassinations and youths restiveness. To curb these countless security challenges, a robust posture is what the unit has always maintained.

“Remarkable improvements have been  recorded, particularly in the refurbishment of armoured fighting vehicles, procurement of new platforms, upgrading of training facilities  and construction of new accommodation for officers and soldiers among others.”
