The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Friday took a swipe at the Interim National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), David Mark, and former Transportation Minister, Rotimi Amaechi, accusing them of deceiving Nigerians through their newly formed opposition coalition.
Speaking during the commissioning of the Aguma Palace–Radio Nigeria–New Market Road in the Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT—a project launched to mark President Bola Tinubu’s second year in office—Wike questioned the credibility and achievements of the coalition’s leaders.
Wike, addressing the gathering alongside Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented President Tinubu at the event, said the opposition bloc led by Mark and Amaechi had no realistic path to power in 2027.
He criticized the coalition’s timing, noting that they claimed to have begun operations 18 months ago, just six months after Tinubu took office. “How can you say Tinubu is responsible for Nigerians’ anger when you started the coalition barely six months into his tenure?” Wike asked.
He challenged both Mark and Amaechi to show Nigerians what they achieved during their time in government. “David Mark was Senate President for eight years, and Amaechi served as Speaker and Minister for several years. What did they do to improve the lives of Nigerians?” he queried.
Wike further declared that his administration believes in accountability, saying, “We’ve been in office for just 16 days, yet we’re already showing our achievements. It’s time for everyone to show their scorecards.”
He concluded by stating that the days of political deception are over, asserting that those who had their chance in office and failed to deliver would not be allowed to return to power in 2027.
