The Federal High Court in Abuja, on Friday, July 3, found suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan guilty of contempt for disobeying a court order.
Presiding Judge, Justice Binta Nyako, ruled that Akpoti-Uduaghan—who represents Kogi Central—violated the court’s gag order by publishing a satirical apology to Senate President Godswill Akpabio on her social media accounts back in April.
The court held that her post, which was shared on April 7, ridiculed its directive that barred both parties from making public statements regarding the matter.
As a result, the court directed Akpoti-Uduaghan to issue a formal apology in two national newspapers and on her Facebook page within seven days. She was also fined ₦5 million for the act of civil contempt.
Although the contempt action was filed by Senator Akpabio, the court refrained from granting any personal reliefs in his favour.
