Benue State on High Alert: Women Protest Rising Insecurity in Makurdi

Women from Agan community in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State, on Friday took to the streets to protest the rising insecurity in their area.

The angry women blocked the federal highway near the Agan toll gate, carrying leaves and chanting songs to express their frustration.

Torkwase, a resident of the area confirmed to UGAMATV that the protest is still ongoing but peaceful.

“The protest is currently ongoing at Agan ward, close to the toll gate,” she told UGAMATV in a telephone interview.

“It is just about the insecurity going on around the area. We are tired and need the government to act fast.”

She said security operatives are already at the scene and the protest remains peaceful for now.

The protest comes as residents continue to face attacks and violence in parts of community and state.
