Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to providing a safe and supportive environment for members of the diplomatic community in Abuja.
He gave the assurance during the Saint Patrick’s Day reception and inauguration of the new Embassy of Ireland at the European Union Complex in Abuja. The event was attended by Ireland’s Minister, Jack Chambers, Irish Ambassador to Nigeria, Peter Ryan, alongside other diplomats.
Wike emphasized that the FCT administration is dedicated to creating a conducive atmosphere for diplomatic activities, particularly by strengthening security. He noted that Abuja has witnessed noticeable improvements and pledged that efforts would continue to enhance the city further.
The minister also highlighted the vision of Bola Tinubu’s administration to transform Abuja into a modern capital that can stand alongside leading cities worldwide.
Congratulating the Irish community on the occasion and the opening of their new embassy, Wike described himself as the “landlord” of Abuja, clarifying that he was speaking in his capacity as FCT Minister.
He further revealed plans to visit Ireland, noting his connection to the newly appointed Nigerian Ambassador to Ireland, OCJ Okocha.
Wike also urged foreign missions allocated land in the FCT to develop their properties without delay. He warned that the government would not tolerate land encroachment, stressing that appropriate legal action would be taken against violators while embassies are encouraged to reclaim and build on their designated plots.
