The Anambra Man of the Year Award Team (AMTY) has named renowned physician, academic and researcher, Beze Afam Adogu, as its Diaspora Person of the Year in recognition of his remarkable achievements in medicine, education and humanitarian service.
Prof. Adogu, who is based in the United States, is a specialist in internal medicine, nephrology and clinical pharmacology. His distinguished career spans Nigeria, the United Kingdom and the United States, where he has made significant contributions to medical research, teaching and patient care.
An alumnus of Dennis Memorial Grammar School, Onitsha, and Government College, Umuahia, Adogu studied Medicine and Surgery at the University of Jos, graduating with top honours and receiving several academic awards across key medical disciplines.
He later earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Biochemistry from University of Cambridge, where he was recognised as a Her Majesty’s Scholar in Medicine at Downing College.
Throughout his professional journey, he has held senior academic and clinical positions at leading institutions in the United States, including Brown University and the Medical College of Georgia, contributing extensively to medical education, research and healthcare delivery.
His accomplishments have earned him numerous honours, including awards for excellence in teaching, nephrology and academic leadership. He was also recognised as an Outstanding Nephrology Fellow in North America and named Alumnus of the Year by Downing College, Cambridge.
Beyond his medical career, Adogu serves on the Community Board of Advisors of Truist Bank, one of the largest banking institutions in the United States. He is also the Chairman of the Ada Foundation in Nigeria, where he champions humanitarian and community development initiatives.
In addition, he is the proprietor of Agulu Farms & Vineyards in Rayle, Georgia.
Organisers of the award described him as a symbol of intellectual excellence, professional discipline and global impact, noting that his achievements demonstrate the positive contributions of Nigerians in the diaspora to global development.
The award is expected to be formally presented at a ceremony that will bring together distinguished Nigerians and international guests to celebrate outstanding service and excellence.
