The management of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has suspended six lecturers over allegations of cultism, sexual harassment, and the unauthorised sale of handouts and textbooks.
The institution’s Public Relations Officer, John Onimisi, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Sunday, saying the affected lecturers were suspended as part of ongoing disciplinary measures.
According to the statement, six lecturers were suspended on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, over the unauthorised sale of handouts and textbooks, while another lecturer was suspended over allegations of sexual harassment.
The action follows growing concerns over alleged cases of sex-for-marks, cult-related activities, and other forms of misconduct within the institution.
Reports alleged that some lecturers demanded sexual favours or money from female students in exchange for passing grades, while cult activities had resurfaced on campus. It was also claimed that some students who reported sexual harassment faced intimidation instead of receiving institutional support.
Other allegations included the return of compulsory handout sales, a relaxation of the institution’s dress code, and poor enforcement of student identity card regulations, all of which were said to have contributed to declining discipline on campus.
Responding to the claims, Onimisi said the institution’s management had commenced investigations through its disciplinary committee and assured that appropriate action would be taken based on the outcome of the probe.
