Abuja, August 2025 – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to completing the permanent site of the National Defence College (NDC) in Abuja, to strengthen strategic training for Nigeria and allied nations.
Speaking on Friday at the graduation ceremony of 99 participants of NDC Course 33, Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, said the institution has the potential to evolve into a full-fledged Defence Postgraduate University once its infrastructure is fully developed.
The graduating participants, drawn from 19 countries, included 25 officers from the Nigerian Army, 16 from the Navy, 12 from the Air Force, five from the Police, 18 from ministries and agencies, and 23 international participants.
Tinubu disclosed that he had directed the Commandant of the college to work closely with the Minister of Defence to produce a clear roadmap for upgrading the facilities at the permanent site in Piwoyi.
> “I have been briefed on the state of infrastructure at the permanent site. While progress has been made, much remains to be done. I assure you that this administration is committed to completing the permanent site,” the President said.
He further noted that government interventions would continue to enhance the institution’s infrastructure, ensuring its capacity to deliver on its mandate of grooming leaders for national security and strategic affairs.
The President also urged the graduating officers to uphold the college’s values of excellence, courage, patriotism, and integrity, which he described as the compass for a successful career.
To the international participants, Tinubu encouraged the strengthening of friendships forged during the course, adding that such ties should evolve into “bridges of cooperation and solidarity” between their nations and Nigeria.
