Human rights activist and 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has revealed the cause of death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
UGAMA TV reports that Buhari passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, after a prolonged battle with an undisclosed illness. His death came two years after the end of his eight-year tenure as President of Nigeria.

In a post on his official Facebook page, Sowore disclosed that Buhari died of leukemia, a type of blood cancer.
Sowore’s statement marks the first public claim regarding the former president’s actual cause of death, as official sources have remained silent on the matter.
The revelation has sparked mixed reactions across social media, with many Nigerians expressing surprise and demanding further clarification from the presidency.
As of the time of this report, there has been no official response from Buhari’s family or the Nigerian government regarding Sowore’s claim.
