Former President Muhammadu Buhari will be laid to rest on Monday in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, following his death in London on Sunday.
According to a report by TVC News, preparations are underway for the burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
Buhari, aged 82, died at about 4:30 p.m. at a London clinic where he had been receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness. His death was announced by his former media aide, Garba Shehu, via a post on X (formerly Twitter).
In response to the news, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu expressed deep sorrow and ordered Vice President Kashim Shettima to travel to London and accompany Buhari’s remains back to Nigeria for burial.
The late former president will be buried with full state honors in Daura, where he was born and maintained close ties throughout his life.
Buhari served as Nigeria’s military Head of State from 1983 to 1985 and later returned as a democratically elected President, serving two consecutive terms from 2015 to 2023.
More details on the funeral proceedings are expected to be announced by the presidency and the Katsina State Government.
