The House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee investigating the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) has directed the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to produce the council’s Director-General, Adeniyi Adeyemi, before the panel within 48 hours.
The order was issued during the committee’s resumed investigative hearing as lawmakers intensified their probe into the PFIPC, which they described as an alleged fake government agency.
The committee said Adeyemi’s appearance is necessary to explain the council’s establishment, legal status and operations. Lawmakers fixed Wednesday for his appearance, stressing that his testimony is crucial to the investigation.
The PFIPC has been embroiled in controversy following corruption allegations made by Adeyemi against the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, over budgetary allocations linked to the council. The allegations prompted President Bola Tinubu to direct the ICPC to investigate the matter.
Adeyemi is currently in police custody after his arrest in Osun State, following a Federal High Court bench warrant over alleged forgery and impersonation charges filed by the Nigeria Police Force. The controversy has also sparked calls for a thorough investigation into the council’s legal status and operations.
