Suspected political thugs on Sunday attacked a Permanent Voter Card (PVC) distribution centre in Okuku, Odo-Otin Local Government Area of Osun State, and made away with packs of voter cards.
The armed men reportedly stormed the distribution centre at Oyinlola DC Primary School, Ward 2, fired shots into the air, and fled with the PVCs before police arrived.
Confirming the incident, Osun State Police spokesperson Abiodun Ojelabi said about 10 armed hoodlums invaded the centre and escaped with three packs of PVCs. He added that the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, has ordered a full investigation to identify and prosecute those responsible.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Osun, Oluwatoyin Babalola, also condemned the attack, saying the commission is awaiting a detailed report to determine the exact number of PVCs stolen.
The incident comes ahead of the Osun State governorship election scheduled for August 15.
