The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has launched an investigation into a viral video showing Aviation Security (AVSEC) officials manually searching a female passenger’s luggage and confiscating her tins of milk and sardines at Osubi Airport, officially known as Alfred Diete-Spiff Airport, in Delta State.
The incident occurred during a security screening, where officials questioned the passenger over canned food items in her bag. The situation escalated after the items were confiscated over concerns they could spill during the flight. The passenger also questioned why her luggage was searched manually instead of being screened with the airport’s scanning machine.
In a statement, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, confirmed that a fact-finding investigation had been initiated. The agency said its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, ordered an immediate probe into the incident.
FAAN stated that the investigation will determine whether the officers involved acted in line with the agency’s operational procedures, service standards and code of conduct, adding that anyone found to have breached the rules will face appropriate disciplinary action.
