Afrobeats singer and former P-Square member, Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, has stirred reactions online after suggesting that Nigerian indigenous languages hold little value.
The controversy began after the singer praised his children’s fluency in French while on vacation in Paris, saying it made him consider buying a home in the city.
When a fan asked if his children could also speak Igbo, Mr P replied, “And who naija language help? Make I hear word abeg.”
His response sparked criticism on social media, with many accusing him of downplaying Nigerian languages despite incorporating Igbo and Yoruba into his music and benefiting from their widespread appeal.
