The Abia State Police Command intensified its campaign against cultism and other criminal vices on Tuesday, aiming to discourage youths from engaging in unlawful activities.
The initiative followed the killing of a young man at Udi Street, near Enugu Road in Umuahia on Monday, who was reportedly shot in the head in front of his father by unknown assailants.
On Tuesday, the police conducted awareness campaigns at Okpara Square and the Area Command in Aba, urging the public to avoid cultism and other forms of crime.
According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, “The walkathon is aimed at strengthening police-public relations and encouraging members of the public to desist from all forms of crime, cultism, and other social vices.”
DSP Chinaka noted that the walkathon, part of the National Police Day 2026 activities, was attended by the Commissioner of Police for Abia State, CP Danladi, along with other officers.
In a related effort, the Ibeku Security Network mobilized a convoy around major streets in Umuahia, urging youths and residents to reject cultism, gangsterism, and other criminal acts.
The local security personnel emphasized their collaboration with the police and other security agencies to ensure that peace is maintained in Umuahia and warned that acts of terror or cultism would not be tolerated.
