The death toll from Sunday night’s deadly attack on Gari Yawaye community in Angwan Rukuba, located in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, has risen to over 30, according to residents of the area.

A youth leader in the community, Philip Markus, disclosed this during a telephone conversation with UGAMATV on Tuesday morning. He explained that the number of casualties increased after some victims who sustained serious injuries during the attack later died.

Markus said that immediately after the incident, about 12 bodies were recovered from different parts of the community, while many injured residents were taken to hospitals for treatment. These include the Jos University Teaching Hospital, Bingham University Teaching Hospital, and the Plateau State Specialist Hospital, as well as several private medical facilities.

He added that some of the injured victims later died while receiving treatment due to the severity of their wounds. During a further search of the community, five additional bodies were also discovered in different locations.

According to him, the number of injured persons exceeded 100, and the total death toll has now surpassed 30. Markus expressed concern that the figure could still rise as time goes on.
