The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a strong warning to members considering defection, vowing to take action against individuals undermining party unity.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, Acting National Chairman Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum emphasized the party’s unity and resilience ahead of the 2027 general elections. He cautioned members against “demarketing” the PDP, stressing that loyalty and discipline are key to the party’s success.
“We are drawing a line… We are watching, and we will take appropriate action at the right time,” Damagum declared.
He also accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of using harassment and inducements to lure PDP members. “The 2027 election will be determined by the Nigerian people, not by your manoeuvres,” he warned the APC.
Damagum criticized the federal government for its handling of national issues, including hunger, insecurity, and arbitrary treatment of citizens. He reiterated the PDP’s commitment to democracy and its readiness to offer credible leadership.
Calling the PDP the most structured and resilient party in the country, he urged members to act as ambassadors and reflect on the party’s legacy. While expressing hope that defectors would return, he reaffirmed that the party remains focused and intact.
The PDP’s next National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting is scheduled for July 23–25, where strategies for the 2027 elections will be further discussed.
