Oshiomhole Hails Trump’s Praise of First Lady Remi Tinubu, Calls It Symbol of National Pride and Unity

Senator Adams Oshiomhole, who represents Edo North in the National Assembly, has congratulated President Bola Tinubu following the recent recognition of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, by United States President Donald Trump. He described the moment as a source of pride for Nigeria and a reflection of religious harmony in the country.

Oshiomhole, a former Governor of Edo State and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), made the remarks after visiting President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on Friday. He said the visit was to extend New Year greetings to the President and to commend the international recognition accorded the First Lady during a public event attended by President Trump.

According to Oshiomhole, President Trump, known for his forthright manner, described Mrs. Tinubu as “a very respectable and responsible woman” and referred to her as a pastor of the largest church in Nigeria before inviting her to stand for public recognition.

He said the acknowledgment drew applause and reflected positively on Nigeria, noting that such recognition would likely have attracted criticism if the situation were reversed. Oshiomhole added that Trump openly acknowledged the First Lady’s Christian faith and pastoral role, describing her as a woman deserving of respect.

The senator further described the gesture as a significant diplomatic moment, highlighting it as an example of religious coexistence under President Tinubu’s leadership. He noted that while President Tinubu is a Muslim, Trump’s public celebration of his Christian wife underscored harmony between faiths in Nigeria.

Oshiomhole concluded by urging Nigerians to remain united despite the nation’s challenges, stressing that collective efforts were already underway to address the country’s issues.
