Residents of satellite towns in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are set to benefit from significant economic and infrastructural improvements as FCT Minister Nyesom Wike launched an ambitious road development programme targeting long-neglected communities.
Addressing journalists on Friday after inspecting ongoing projects in Karu, Karshi, and the Bwari–Kubwa axis, Wike explained that the initiative is being implemented in line with a presidential directive to build a durable and strategic road network across the FCT. According to him, the renewed focus is aimed at correcting years of uneven infrastructure development and unlocking economic potential in satellite communities.
One of the key projects, the previously abandoned Apo–Karshi Road, has been revived following the termination of the former contract and its re-award to SCC Construction Company. Wike noted that the decision was driven by the strategic importance of the road and the need to accelerate progress, adding that construction work has since resumed in earnest.
The minister also commended the reconstruction of roads in Karu by indigenous contractor Abdul Val Construction Company, describing the quality of work as impressive. He highlighted the 16–17 kilometre Bwari–Kubwa Road as a transformative project that would significantly boost economic activities in communities along the corridor.
Wike disclosed that the Bwari–Kubwa Road and other major projects are expected to be completed before the end of the year. He further directed the National Commission for Civic Awareness to complete landscaping works in Karshi and surrounding areas to ensure comprehensive development.
According to the minister, the road projects will improve connectivity, attract investment, increase property values, and enhance living standards. He added that residents in areas previously lacking proper road infrastructure are already witnessing tangible progress, aligning the initiative with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
