NPFL: Kano Pillars suspend technical adviser and chief coach after getting hefty ₦9.5 million fine

The management of Kano Pillars Football Club announced the immediate suspension of Technical Adviser Ogenyi Evans and Chief Coach Ahmed Garba on Monday, October 20, 2025, citing the team’s unsatisfactory performance in the ongoing 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.

The club’s management, in a statement, explained that the move is an effort to reposition the team for better results, as they have secured only two wins and two draws against four defeats in their initial eight league matches, a record deemed below expectations.

Taking charge of the technical responsibilities in the interim will be former club captain and Assistant Coach Gambo Muhammad, alongside Goalkeeping Coach Suleiman Shuaibu. They will be supported in an ad-hoc capacity by Coach Garzali Muhammad from the Junior Pillars setup.

This coaching shake-up follows Kano Pillars’ recent 2–1 defeat to newly promoted Barau FC in their Match Day 9 encounter, a match where veteran midfielder Rabiu Ali’s opener was overturned by Barau FC’s Ibrahim Yahaya (from the penalty spot) and Stanley Okafor Oganbor.

The pressure on the club has been compounded by severe disciplinary action from the NPFL following crowd trouble during a recent home match against Shooting Stars. As part of the punishment, the NPFL deducted three points and three goals from the team’s total, imposed a hefty ₦9.5 million fine, and banished the club to play their next 10 home matches behind closed doors in Katsina.

With nine games played, the accumulated result of the poor performance and the sanctions sees Kano Pillars occupying the 20th position in the league standing. The management thanked their supporters for their loyalty and promised that measures are being taken to restore the team’s

winning spirit.
