“No Hiding Place for Criminals”: Gov Mbah Unveils Hi-Tech Drones, Patrol Fleet in Bold Push for a Safer Enugu

Enugu State took a decisive leap in modern security management on Monday as Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah unveiled a new fleet of hi-tech security assets procured by the Enugu State Security Trust Fund (ESSTF), reinforcing his administration’s commitment to making the state the safest haven for residents, investors, and visitors.

The newly inaugurated equipment includes two state-of-the-art VTOL surveillance drones, 10 Hilux patrol vans, 40 rapid-response motorcycles, 400 bulletproof vests, and 400 bulletproof helmets—tools designed to strengthen intelligence gathering, rapid deployment, and all-round operational efficiency.

Speaking at the Government House, Enugu, Governor Mbah commended the Trustees of the ESSTF for their proactive role in advancing the security architecture of the state. He noted that the fresh assets would complement the administration’s existing investments, including the Command and Control Centre, AI-enabled surveillance systems across the state, and over 150 Distress Response Squad (DRS) vehicles fitted with AI-powered cameras.

“Our vision for Enugu would amount to nothing without adequate security,” the governor said. “Today, we can confidently say violent crimes have reduced by over 80 per cent. But security is one area where you cannot relent. One breach can erode years of success. That is why this reinforcement is critical.”

He reaffirmed the state’s continued collaboration with the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stressing that security challenges are local and must be tackled decisively at the state level.

Representing the Chairman of the ESSTF, Ike Chioke, Trustee Nath Udeh said the days of criminals finding safe havens in Enugu are over. He emphasized that visible improvements in security under the Mbah administration have triggered increased air traffic and investor interest in the state.

“If you don’t book flights early now, you don’t get a seat. Companies are coming here for retreats and major engagements. Something good is happening in Enugu,” he stated.

Providing technical insights, the Executive Secretary of ESSTF, Engr. Chinedu Ani, revealed that the cutting-edge drones boast a 100km operational range, multiple AI-enabled cameras—including thermal and night-vision—and speeds of up to 120 km/h. The drones, he added, give security agencies the ability to track vehicles, suspects, and human movement anywhere in the state without the need for runways.

Supporting the investment drive, Trustee and Anglican Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Rt. Rev. Onyekachi Onyia, underlined the region-wide implications of sustaining a secure Enugu.

“We know the consequences of leaving Enugu porous. If terrorists penetrate Enugu, the entire South East is endangered,” he warned.

With the new assets now set for deployment, the Mbah administration is sending a strong message: Enugu is not just open for business—Enugu is protected, prepared, and confidently secure.
