The Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has expelled Abdulmumin Jibrin, the lawmaker representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, over alleged anti-party activities and failure to meet his financial obligations to the party.
The state chairman, Alhaji Hashim Dungurawa, announced the decision on Saturday while briefing journalists in Kano. He accused Jibrin of consistently attacking the party leadership in the media, aligning with political opponents of former governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and neglecting to pay mandatory dues.
“Instead of dialogue, he went further to work against our interest, openly declaring loyalty outside the party. That is why we expelled him. He has no value to add,” Dungurawa said.
He further vowed that the party would pursue legal action to recover unpaid dues from the lawmaker, stressing that contributions are a constitutional requirement.
On speculations that Jibrin might return to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dungurawa dismissed fears of weakened influence, insisting the Kwankwasiyya movement remains solidly behind Kwankwaso.
Jibrin, who previously served as Director-General of the Bola Tinubu Support Groups Management Council before joining NNPP in 2022, leveraged the Kwankwasiyya structure to reclaim his House of Reps seat. Recently, however, he had hinted at leaving the NNPP, fueling political tension in Kano ahead of the 2027 elections.
