Tragedy struck near Enuda High School in Abiriba, Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State, when a truck carrying tiles and doors from Port Harcourt to Abiriba crashed, killing four male adults and leaving five others seriously injured.
The impact of the crash caused the truck to split into three parts, instantly claiming four lives. While some residents blamed the accident on overspeeding, others said the truck suffered a brake failure.
The injured victims were rushed to a hospital in Abiriba by officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Abia State Road Traffic Management Agency (ARTMA).
Confirming the incident, the FRSC Sector Commander in Abia, Mrs. Ngozi Ezeoma, said:
“There was a crash involving nine male adults, and four male adults out of the nine regrettably lost their lives while the rest were injured.”
Chairman of Ohafia LGA, Eleanya Ojuu Kalu, described the accident as a tragedy for Abiriba and Ohafia at large. He also commended the prompt response of the Abiriba Police Division, FRSC officials, and ARTMA officers.
