Nigerian Nurses Suspend Nationwide Strike After Agreement with FG

The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has suspended its nationwide strike, which began on July 29, 2025.

This was disclosed by the Minister of Health, Professor Ali Pate, while briefing journalists after a closed-door meeting held on Friday.

According to Pate, the strike was called off following an agreement reached between the federal government and the leadership of the nursing union.

However, union leaders declined to comment after the meeting.

UGAMA TV recalls that the nurses embarked on the industrial action in protest of the federal government’s failure to respond to a 15-day ultimatum issued on July 14, 2025.

The strike, which involved nurses working in public health institutions across the country, was initially scheduled to last until August 5, 2025.
