The former chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State, Dr. Ben Nwoye, has officially returned to the party, months after announcing his resignation.
Nwoye, who served as the foundation chairman of the APC in the state, said his comeback is aimed at rebuilding and uniting the party ahead of the 2027 general elections. He also revealed that his return is part of a broader plan to woo Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State into the APC.
Confirming the development, Nwoye stated:
“Yes, it’s true. I rejoined the APC a few days ago. The goal is to unite the party and end the era of ‘Project 4,772’ – the number of votes APC leaders Uche Nnaji and Ugo Agballah delivered for Tinubu in the last presidential election. If left unchecked, that figure could drop even further by 2027.”
He emphasized the need to solidify APC’s presence in Enugu, adding that President Tinubu must complete his two terms in office to ensure power remains in the South before rotating back to the North.
On Governor Mbah’s rumored defection, Nwoye expressed optimism, saying,
“My second objective is to appeal to our performing governor to join the progressives. If we fail to bring him in, those deceiving the public with 14,000 votes in the last election will continue their charade. We must face reality and unite behind a stronger candidate.”
Addressing opposition from current APC leaders Nnaji and Agballah, Nwoye accused them of running the party as a personal venture, manipulating appointments for close associates. He also criticized the influence of external political forces in Enugu, calling for local control over federal appointments.
“We are done with outsiders deciding Enugu’s fate. It’s time Enugu people decide who leads them and benefits from federal positions. We are not afraid-we are pushing back to take our party back,” Nwoye declared.
