A non-governmental organisation, Everlasting Fountain Welfare Initiative (EFWI), has commenced construction of its flagship project aimed at supporting homeless and underprivileged individuals in Ogun State.
The project, named “Everlasting Shelters for the Homeless and Underprivileged,” is situated on a seven-hectare expanse of land in Obafe Town, along the Abeokuta–Ajebo Road.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, the founder of the initiative, Abiola Adeniyi, described the project as a major step toward restoring dignity and providing support to vulnerable members of society. She explained that the faith-based organisation focuses on humanitarian services including food aid, clothing, healthcare, skills training, accommodation, and counselling.
According to her, the development will feature a 500-capacity shelter designed to accommodate homeless individuals and families within Obafemi/Owode Local Government Area. Beyond temporary housing, the centre will function as a rehabilitation and empowerment hub.
She noted that residents will have access to vocational training in areas such as shoemaking, tailoring, hairdressing, farming, soap production, and decoration. Plans are also underway to establish a farming institute within the facility to promote self-sufficiency through agriculture.
Adeniyi expressed gratitude for the progress made so far, noting that acquiring the land was unexpected but welcomed. She called on Nigerians and government bodies to support the initiative to ensure its successful completion.
Also speaking, the foundation’s patron, Victor Adeniyi, described the project as a long-held vision brought to life through collective effort and faith. He highlighted the organisation’s ongoing commitment to helping vulnerable groups, referencing earlier interventions such as its youth empowerment programme launched in 2021.
The shelter project is envisioned as a safe haven where the homeless and less privileged can rebuild their lives, gain skills, and work towards a more stable future.
