The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, said its operatives have arrested a 44-year-old man after intercepting 74,360 pills of opioid in Maiduguri, Borno State.

NDLEA’s Director of Media and Publicity, Femi Babafemi, disclosed this in a statement that highlighted the agency’s ongoing war against drug abuse and illicit trafficking in the country.

He said the operatives intercepted the illicit drugs in a Mercedes Benz C180 car marked GUB 409 AA while on patrol along Baga road, Maiduguri, on Saturday.

According to him one suspect identified as Audu Modu, 44, was arrested in connection with the seizure.

“While a total of 25,000 pills of tramadol and exol-5 were recovered from a suspect Aliyu Abubakar, at Gombe roundabout on Friday 18th July, the duo of Mohammed Adamu and Furaira Idris were arrested same day with 49 blocks of compressed skunk that weighed 29kg at Kwadom, Yemaltu Deba LGA, Gombe State,” he said.

While commending the officers and men of the agency for the arrests and seizures of the past week across the country, Chairman of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd) also urged them to sustain the tempo.

He charged them to ensure a balance between drug supply reduction and drug demand reduction efforts in the country.
