In a bold move to sanitize the gaming industry and enforce regulatory compliance, the Enugu State Gaming and Lotto Commission over the weekend sealed off several unauthorized gaming centres operating illegally in the state capital.
The enforcement operation, led by the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Prince Arinze Arum, targeted unlicensed jackpot slot machine games run by Yanga Game at entertainment hubs such as Ballroom, Eclipse Resort, Edge Guest House, Guaranty Resort, Kepong Villa, and Desa Park City Suite/Garden.
Speaking to journalists during the operation, Prince Arum reiterated the Commission’s commitment to promoting responsible gaming, emphasizing that all operators must be licensed, registered, and compliant with the laws of Enugu State.
“We have come out here today to enforce the rules. Anyone operating illegally behind the scenes is already creating problems for the system, and we will not tolerate that,” he declared.
Prince Arum disclosed that the Commission has deployed advanced geo-location technologies to track and monitor licensed operators across the state. According to him, these tools provide real-time visibility and ensure no illegal outlet escapes detection.
He further stated that Governor Peter Mbah’s vision of growing Enugu’s economy sevenfold to $30 billion depends heavily on structured and transparent systems across all sectors — gaming inclusive.
“The procedures for obtaining a gaming license in Enugu State have become so seamless that no operator has any excuse to remain unlicensed,” Prince Arum said.
According to him, the Commission has cut down the licensing period from several months to just seven working days or less, with the added convenience of online applications.
He maintained that the current administration is determined to build a robust, transparent, and responsible gaming ecosystem, one that not only ensures player protection but also boosts investor confidence and supports the state’s economic agenda.
This latest enforcement action signals a new era of strict compliance, digital transformation, and zero tolerance for illegality in Enugu’s fast-evolving gaming industry.
