Legacy, Culture and Empowerment Converge in Nenwe as Piroja Celebrates Chief Aniobi’s Coronation

EMUDO NENWE, Enugu State — December 31, 2025, will long be remembered in the history of Emudo Nenwe, Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State, as Piroja Group hosted a rare convergence of landmark celebrations that blended culture, faith, family values, and community development in one grand ceremony.

The historic event featured the grand opening of Piroja Castle, the official launch of the Piroja Foundation, the rollout of an educational empowerment programme through scholarships, a thanksgiving Holy Mass, and the traditional conferment of a chieftaincy title on the Chairman of Piroja Group, Chief Engr. (Dr.) Peter Aniobi JP.

The high point of the celebration was the conferment of the prestigious traditional title High Chief Obodo Amarugo Ive Ha Nweru on Chief Aniobi, in recognition of his outstanding commitment to philanthropy, grassroots development, and socio-economic empowerment within Nenwe and beyond.

As part of the empowerment drive, scholarships were awarded to deserving students, underscoring Piroja Group’s investment in education as a tool for sustainable development. Beneficiaries and community representatives, including Mbah Ebube Favour of Awgu High School, Nenwe; Akpa Precious Uzoamaka of Girls High School, Nenwe; and Sir Tobias Uzoma, Head Teacher of Awgu High School, Nenwe, lauded the initiative, describing it as a strategic intervention that would positively shape the future of the community.

Earlier in the day, a thanksgiving Holy Mass was held at the residence of Chief Aniobi, after which guests proceeded to the venue of the Ebanwegu (Egbekwogu) Cultural Festival. The thanksgiving also coincided with the couple’s wedding anniversary, marking years of marital union since 2012 and adding a deeply personal and symbolic layer to the day’s celebrations.

Speaking at the event, Chief Engr. (Dr.) Peter Aniobi JP and his wife expressed profound gratitude to God and the people of Nenwe, describing the alignment of multiple milestones on the same day as a testament to divine grace, perseverance, and overwhelming community support.

The ceremony was conducted under the traditional authority of His Royal Majesty, Igwe Emmanuel Chukwu Aliejim (Omerora I of Emudo Nenwe), as part of activities marking the monarch’s second anniversary on the throne.

Cultural displays, traditional rites, and the presence of dignitaries from within and outside the community added colour and prestige to the occasion. Many attendees described the celebration as unprecedented in scale and significance, noting that it reflected a rare blend of legacy, love, cultural pride, and purposeful leadership.

The Piroja celebration has since been widely applauded as a defining moment in the history of Emudo Nenwe—one that reaffirmed the power of unity, tradition, and development-driven leadership.
