Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, has reaffirmed his commitment to serving the people of Enugu State with integrity, humility and renewed vigour, assuring that he would continue to make them proud following his endorsement by traditional rulers of Nkanu land.
The governor gave the assurance on Friday at the 50th coronation anniversary of the traditional ruler of Ihuokpara in Nkanu East Local Government Area, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Fidelis Ogbu Nwatu, the Grand Patron of the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council.
In a symbolic gesture steeped in Igbo tradition, Igwe Nwatu, alongside other royal fathers of Nkanu land and with the support of the Chairman of the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council, HRM Igwe Samuel Asadu, presented Governor Mbah with the Ofo staff—a sacred emblem of authority, truth and justice—signifying their endorsement and confidence in his leadership.
Describing the honour as profound and deeply significant, Governor Mbah said the presentation of the Ofo transcended symbolism, noting that traditional rulers are the earthly representatives of the ancestors.
“The weight and significance of the Ofo I have just received cannot be lost on me as an Nkanu man. This is not an ordinary honour. It is trust, authority and responsibility bestowed on me by my own people,” Mbah stated.
He stressed that the endorsement was a call to higher responsibility, pledging to continue serving Ndi Enugu with humility, dedication and the full measure of his strength.
“I understand clearly what this endorsement represents. I will continue to serve Ndi Enugu with all the energy that I have and every fibre of my being. You will never regret your action,” the governor assured.
Governor Mbah also congratulated Igwe Nwatu on his golden jubilee on the throne, describing the monarch’s 50 years of reign as a testament to honour, service and divine approval.
“Fifty years on the throne cannot be achieved by force. It reflects the love of the people, the approval of the ancestors and the grace of God. We celebrate a ruler who has dedicated his life to service,” he said, praying for many more years of wisdom and good health for the royal father.
In a major policy assurance, the governor announced significant improvements in the welfare of traditional rulers across the state, beginning from January 2026.
“Traditional rulers are the custodians of our values and culture. Their welfare has been prioritised in our budget. From this month, you will feel something humongous, and we will also provide vehicles for all principal officers of the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council,” he disclosed.
Earlier, while presenting the Ofo staff, Igwe Nwatu, speaking on behalf of the royal fathers, praised Governor Mbah for what he described as exceptional governance, people-oriented policies and landmark projects, declaring that Enugu State had never had it so good.
According to him, the presentation of the Ofo staff was a clear endorsement for the governor to continue his good works.
Highlights of the ceremony included the unveiling of Igwe Nwatu’s book titled “Leadership as Service: A Portrait of Stewardship, Justice and Peace” and the cutting of the golden jubilee cake by the celebrant, flanked by Governor Mbah and other dignitaries.
The event attracted a galaxy of prominent personalities, including former President of the Senate, Senator Ken Nnamani; wife of former governor of old Anambra State, Chief Patricia Nwobodo; political leaders, captains of industry, and well-wishers from across Nigeria and beyond.
