Insecurity: Kaduna bans cattle, donkeys from other states

The Kaduna State Government has banned the transportation of livestock, including cattle and donkeys, from the state to other parts of the country.

The state Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, who made the announcement on Thursday, also warned that the ban on felling/transportation of trees and selling of petrol in jerrycans in select local government area was still in force

The state government had on Tuesday announced a ban on the cutting of trees in seven local government areas of Birnin Gwari, Igabi, Chikun, Giwa, Kachia, Kauru and Kajuru.

According to Aruwan, after wide consultation and thorough security reviews, the state gave the order banning the transportation of livestock from the state to other states in the country

The commissioner said the ban took immediate effect from Thursday, September 2, 2021.

Aruwan added that the Kawo Market, which usually holds every Tuesday in the Kaduna North Local Government Area, had been suspended with immediate effect.

He stated, “The government of Kaduna State wishes to highlight that the previous directives suspending weekly markets and selling of petrol in jerrycans in Birnin Gwari, Giwa, Chikun, Igabi and Kajuru LGAs, as well as banning of the felling of trees for timber, firewood, charcoal and other commercial purposes in the Birnin Gwari, Kachia, Kajuru, Giwa, Chikun, Igabi and Kauru LGAs, are still in force.

“Citizens are hereby informed that all these directives will be vigorously enforced by security agencies.”
